Every time Helpful Hands and Hearts builds an access ramp, the 911 Community Task Force will pay for a 911 reflective address sign.
Helpful Hands and Hearts helps everyday people within the Lake Gaston and Roanoke River Valley area deal with their challenging access and transportation circumstances. Basic “access” and “transportation” are small words, but they are critical for maintaining, or even improving, someone’s quality of life. The two primary services offered by Helpful Hands and Hearts to people in need are: constructing Access Ramps and offering Transportation to basic services such as medical appointments or the grocery store.
Think you need help? Helpful Hands and Hearts services all of Warren, Halifax, and Northampton counties in North Carolina, as well as Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties in Virginia. Check out our Getting Help page to learn more and see if you qualify.
Our team of nearly 70 volunteers helps, not just Seniors, but all of those who struggle with either access and / or transportation challenges. When we help an individual or family, they truly become our Friends. Down at the grassroots level where we work, Helpful Hands and Hearts strives every day to Make a Difference, One Smile at a Time.
Our Ramp Team constructs access ramps that allow our Friends to safely get into and out of their homes. We’ve now built well over 200 ramps. In less than a single day, lives are dramatically improved. Our Transportation Team helps Friends who can’t drive get to and from basic services such as the grocery store or health care appointments. In our rural area, this may be all the help that people need to stay independent longer.
