Ramps Built In 2025

Dear Ms. Phillips spent her life in service to others as a nurses aide. At age 90, she is now facing several health issues of her own. We were excited to build a ramp for her! Hopefully now she can move about more safely and securely, particularly when going to doctor appointments or even to enjoy her wonderful yard!

Today brought a heat warning of 110 degrees. Even for NC-VA, that is HOT!
Yet, our faithful volunteers knew that Mr. Robinson could not come home from rehab unless a ramp was there to provide access. Unfortunately, he lost his leg and is now in a wheelchair. A ramp was needed to allow him to come home safely to continue recovering. We wish Mr. Robinson and his family the best and were happy to battle the blazing temps for such a good cause! Be well, Mr. R!

At HHH, we try to see the whole person and their situation. If they need access, we build ramps. If mobility is an issue, we loan power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, and walkers. If transportation to a doctor’s appointment or to get groceries is needed, our transportation team is ready to go!
We strive to turn challenges to opportunities, going that extra mile for a smile!
In instances where mobility needs absolutely demand an assistive device, we work hard to think creatively to help our Friends. Power wheelchairs are a big help for some…but they can be a bit more bulky and less nimble than a regular wheelchair. We offer both. Now imagine being totally reliant upon a wheelchair and a storm door becomes a real barrier. HHH volunteers help our Friends by installing a storm door with the closer out of the way. What if our Friend dearly loves their garden? We work hard to build the ramp out of the way so they can still enjoy the simple pleasures. And sometimes offering kind words of support and a hug to caregivers is just what is needed to carry on.
HHH wants all our Friends set up for success in their everyday lives. And that makes us smile.

Sometimes we just love to cut up!
When building a ramp, we often hear from folks, “you seem to be having so much fun together!” And that is because we are! Wondering how to spend your summer, why not join us on Monday mornings?! You will be glad you did!

PS: No boards were injured with a chain saw while creating this post. LOL!

A message from a grateful husband whose wife couldn’t come home from rehab until she had a ramp. “… I just got back and it was just so unbelievable; a beautiful job you wonderful people did on my ramp! I just had to call and thank y’all so very much! God bless each and everyone! It looks just totally fantastic! …”
And now, Mrs. Edwards can come home!!!!!

Floyd and Brenda are a delight! So happy to have them as new friends. Floyd needed a wheelchair that we loaned him courtesy of Prospect United Methodist Church! And then we went to work building a ramp for this wheelchair. Though Floyd is battling lung cancer, he hasn’t lost his sense of humor. He was ready to race down his new ramp, much to the concern of Brenda. He assured us that his gravel pile would stop him. What a hoot! We wish them well as they both manage multiple health concerns. Blessings on you both!
